The Clearwater and District Chamber of Commerce is neutral on the decision to incorporate or not. We provide this website as a service for the benefit of our members and the community of Clearwater. April 3rd News Release for Clearwater Incorporation Study Committee The objective of the study process is to provide the local citizens , within the boundaries of the study area, with complete and accurate information to allow citizens to make an informed decision about the implications of municipal incorporation. The incorporation study committee is neutral on the question of incorporation and the major role of the committee is to manage the study process and seek the required information, pro & con, for the citizens. However, to do that we require citizens to make their questions/concerns known by talking to the committee. The committee is committed to obtaining the information to address the questions. The study consultant is an objective technician who will be selected by the committee to develop a study that provides electors with research and analysis of the implications of incorporation. Questions of a technical nature, that pertain to the study, will be deferred to the consultant to answer. There are four avenues for the public to make questions/concerns known to the committee: - personal discussions with committee members; - phone calls to committee members; - electronic mail; - question boxes that have been placed at the library, community resource centre and the Royal Bank. Royal Bank was added to the list based on a request from the public to add this additional location as a convenience to the public. - The committee wishes to remind the public that three ring binders containing key information about the incorporation process have been located at the library and the community resource centre. Committee is working to develop a web site that will also contain key information about the incorporation process. Further details regarding the web site will be released once the site is developed. Question: Why did the Incorporation issue resurface? Answer: This question was addressed by the Regional District Director at March 2nd Clearwater Incorporation Study Committee meeting. The Regional District Director has the authority to request a study and did so. The reasons are varied but the impending issues of water and sewer, the deterioration of Dutch lake and the desire for walkways and trails are the main ones but there are many others. The access to funding sources and control of the above issues requires the review of the need for an incorporated municipality. Another general concern is the desire by many residents to obtain broader local control in decisions as opposed to one Regional District Director, the TNRD and the Provincial Government deciding what is right for the community. Question: How was the committee formed and what were the criteria for requesting volunteers? Answer: This question was addressed by the Regional District Director at March 2nd Clearwater Incorporation Study Committee meeting. Regional District Director made the decision to personally select the committee members after a conversation with MLA Kevin Krueger. Members were chosen from people who had come forward, persons who were recommended and persons who were needed to represent certain groups ie Clearwater improvement District and the Chamber of Commerce. |
