The Clearwater and District Chamber of Commerce is neutral on the decision to incorporate or not. We provide this website as a service for the benefit of our members and the community of Clearwater.
Feb 27th News Release There will be a public meeting on Thursday, March 2nd at 7:30 pm at the Community Resource Centre in Clearwater. This will be a regular meeting of the Clearwater Incorporation Study Group Committee. The main focus will be preliminary discussions on the boundaries of the area to be included in the upcoming study. Information is based on crude figures and the consultant will be required to verify the information once hired. This meeting will only consider the financial implications of including various areas in the study. Three – ring binders, containing information about the incorporation process ( minutes of meetings, etc. ) are located at both the library and the Community Resource Centre in Clearwater. Question drop-boxes are also located at these locations. Question: What happens to the Clearwater Improvement District staff if Clearwater becomes incorporated? Response: This question was answered at the Feb 8th public meeting in Barriere. All contracts created under the Improvement District would roll over to the Municipality. Therefore, staff who are covered by the CUPE contract and the administrator who is under a three year contract with the Improvement District would become staff working for the municipality. Functions performed by staff under the municipality would be determined by the Mayor and Council. Which functions the municipality would administer would be negotiated with the TNRD. Question: There has been a question with regards to who pays for police costs if the community became incorporated. Response: This item was also discussed at the Feb 8th meeting in Barriere. Government is presently reviewing the recovery of police costs from small communities of less than 5,000 people. If this change is implemented, whether the community is incorporated or not, residents will be paying taxes to cover the cost of police, either to the TNRD or the municipality. |
