Gray Provincial Park
Wells Gray Park
also known as the park of
"fire and ice"
is a geological gold mine nestled in the
heart of the
British Columbia
interior. It
is
located in east-central British Columbia,
410 air
km Northeast if Vancouver and 137 air km due North of Kamloops. It is British
Columbia's fourth largest provincial park and contains 515,785 hectares
of almost 1.3 million acres of virtual wilderness. Wells Gray has over
20 major cascades, torrents, rapids, and falls. Many of these are a short
stroll from the parking lot: others are an hour or two's walk. When the land
loses it's snow spectacular displays of wild flowers burst into bloom including
Indian Paintbrush, Alpine Daisy, Lupin, and Horsehair. With all this
natural habitat there comes a wide variety of wildlife to be viewed including
moose, bears, different wild cats, and a large array of birdlife. Wells
Gray also provides opportunity to participate in an assortment of recreation
activities such as hiking, boating, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding, river
rafting, and fishing.
