Clearwater & District Chamber of Commerce Of the Year Awards Evening held October 16, 2009 Clearwater Valley Resort
2009 Of the Year Awards winners
Retail / Service Business – Wells Gray HomeHardware The Staff are courteous, helpful, and well informed of the products being sold. The layout of the store is well marked with signs on each aisle to indicate items available. They have the biggest selection of fishing and hunting supplies in the local area. They also represent and have a local Sears catalogue order desk and depot. Although the store building has been here since the early 1970’s it has been kept in good repair and has regular maintenance. Tourism Business - Riverside Adventures & Fitness Centre Both Robert and Lianna Beaudry, the owners of Riverside Adventures and Fitness Centre are community minded. Robert is involved with the rafting, canoeing and kayaking section of the business. They provide fully guided trips on the two major rivers in the Clearwater area. They take locals and tourists on memorable whitewater rafting trips on the Clearwater River. He also has float trips on the North Thompson River. In the past he promoted and participated in the Voyageur Canoe trip from Clearwater to Kamloops Lianna is involved with the Fitness Centre as well as a bed and breakfast. At the fitness centre, local residents as well as tourists may work out on any of the many fitness and exercise machines that they have at their business. They also have certified weight trainers for designing personal fitness requests. Robert lends a hand to various organizations whenever possible and is always pleasant to be with. In the past, Robert has been Master of Ceremonies for the Chamber of Commerce "Of the Year" Awards evening showing that this businessman is also community minded and will help out when asked. Employee of the Year - Guy Holland Guy Holland makes the Safety Mart a welcome spot to shop. He is always good natured and helpful when a customer asks for his assistance. Nothing is bother for Guy. Even outside the store, he gives a friendly greeting to people he might only know as customers. He always makes children visiting the store know they are welcome. Guy shows pride in his job and is an asset to both the Safety Mart and Clearwater Youth of the Year - Merissa Sollows Merissa is a fine example of the outstanding youth we have in our community. Before she graduated, earlier this year, Merissa and her family organized many fundraisers for the Grad Class, including the Fun Fair - at which she and her friends worked tirelessly to raise money for this occasion. Merissa and her sister also helped at many of the awareness activities of the North Thompson Aboriginal Council, the Success by 6 events, at the beach during the Canoe Regatta, and she was spotted by the nominator volunteering at the North Thompson Fair. She is great with children and worked during the summer, holding down two jobs, at the Summer Fun Days for Yellowhead Community Services. Merissa is a long term employee at Dairy Queen and makes the customers feel welcome, adding to her charm as a Clearwater resident. I feel that Merissa is a pleasant and friendly young lady who deserves to be recognized by her peers and the community for her efforts. Citizen of the Year - Sandra Holmes Sandra is an all around outstanding citizen. She volunteers both her time and energy to a wide variety of organizations. From selling fair trade coffee for the local United Church, promoting community development internationally, to volunteering for the canoe regatta and helping organize the trails & Volcanoes Society, Sandra tries to do it all. She is an invaluable asset this community and should be recognized for her generous contributions. Sandra’s additional contributions: volunteering at the Information Center, contributing writer for the local paper, attends all community events, part of the local book club, gives beautiful flowers to her neighbors, just to mention a few.
